Benedikt started piano lessons with me when he was seven and continued for more than 10 years. As the youngest of three brothers, he was the one I taught for the longest—and I also had the pleasure of teaching his two older brothers.
We started with the basics, but the lessons grew with him. As he became more confident, we could spend more time on the music he actually wanted to play.
Sometimes we worked with sheet music. When there was no sheet music available, we used YouTube videos and worked things out from there.
Over the years, we played a lot of different music: classical, pop, blues, jazz, film music, improvisation, playing by ear and even his own compositions.
I also helped him prepare for his music A-level exams, especially music theory and harmony.
What I enjoyed most was seeing how his musical interests developed as he grew up. What started with learning the basics became a much wider musical journey.
„I took piano lessons with Marcus for over ten years, starting when I was seven.
Once I had mastered the basics, I was able—naturally depending on my skill level—to play exactly what I wanted, focusing in particular on the music that interested and excited me at the time.
The great variety and diversity of the lessons (ranging from classical, pop, blues, and jazz—including improvisation—to film scores, playing by ear, and original compositions) really suited me and kept me motivated to stick with it.
Marcus also helped me prepare for my music A-level exams, specifically in the areas of music theory and harmony.
I would recommend these piano lessons to anyone. Over the many years he has guided me, I have come to deeply value Marcus as both a teacher and a friend.“
Gabi started learning the piano with me when she was around 50. She didn’t want to become a professional pianist. She wanted to learn properly, build a solid foundation, and enjoy playing as a hobby.
We’ve now been working together for around 10 years.
Over that time, we’ve played classical music, film music, pop, blues and a little jazz. We’ve also continued to work on the things that make playing feel easier and help the music sound better.
She has come a long way since she started.
Two years ago, I moved from Cologne to Nettersheim. I honestly didn’t expect many of my Cologne students to continue coming to me. For Gabi, it meant a much longer journey, especially by train.
She still comes.
For me, it is a great honour to accompany someone for so many years. With Gabi, as with Benedikt, I’ve been able to witness that development firsthand.
And that’s one of the things I love most about teaching: seeing how a student grows over the years, discovering new things in the music and becoming more at ease with the instrument.
After ten years, we’re still doing exactly that.
„An excellent piano teacher who explains piano playing and music in an understandable way.“
„I couldn’t imagine a better teacher. Marcus is friendly, brings a wealth of experience, and completely adapts to one’s wishes.
You are simply in the right hands here.“
„My daughter has been taking piano lessons with Marcus Sukiennik for about a year and a half.
She always really enjoys going to her lessons. I am pleased that she practices at home with motivation.
In addition to an improved sense of rhythm, she has also developed her technical skills. She has made great progress during this time.
Thank you so much!!“
„Excellent piano lessons, well-tailored and adapted to individual interests and skill levels.“
With Jonas, I primarily worked on jazz improvisation and music theory, while also preparing him for the entrance exam at the music conservatory.
He sometimes struggled with doubts about his playing and with practising as regularly as he would have liked. But when we talked about it, I realised something important: Jonas was already spending a great deal of time making music. It just wasn’t always connected to a particular goal or practice plan.
So I didn’t want to force him into a particular path. Instead, I gave him room to explore and we talked about which kind of music degree might actually suit him. I didn’t think studying jazz piano was necessarily the right fit for him.
I’m very glad he found his own way.
Today, Jonas is a composer for film and games, creating music for a very different world than the one he might have entered if he had simply followed the most obvious path.
„A wonderful and productive piano lesson, covering both music theory and practice.
I have never learned so much, so quickly, in any other piano lesson—and I had so much fun doing it, too 🙂
I am truly very satisfied and would highly recommend these lessons to anyone interested.“
Makeda was already a singer when she came to me. She wanted to deepen her musical knowledge, particularly in music theory and jazz standards, and to better understand the music she was working with.
Our lessons were calm and practical. We worked through the theory behind the music and looked at jazz standards from different angles, always with her work as a singer in mind.
Today, Makeda is a professional singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, performing her own music as well as live music for different occasions.
I’m happy that the things we worked on together became part of her wider musical journey.
“Marcus is a wonderful teacher! Empathetic, friendly, patient, and organized, he teaches piano with a calm demeanor. The lessons always feel too short, and I go home with fresh inspiration, new skills, and more knowledge. It’s great learning from him!”
„I started taking piano lessons with Marcus two years ago and am more than satisfied.
He fully tailors the lessons to the students‘ interests and needs—regarding musical style as well as skills and theory.
The lessons always motivate me to keep practicing!“
„Marcus is an excellent piano teacher whom I highly recommend.
The lessons offered a good mix of theoretical knowledge and practical application, and I always really enjoyed them.“
„Here, you can find excellent, personalized piano lessons tailored precisely to the student’s wishes.
Lessons take place on a Steinway grand piano in a musical setting.
Marcus Sukiennik draws on practical experience and knows exactly what a modern pianist needs to have in their toolkit; this elevates the instruction to a highly professional level without ever feeling stiff or overly strict.
I highly recommend it.“
